CBD

What does CBD do?

Using CBD will help you unwind and relax. CBD temporarily changes brain chemistry. This is due to the fact that cannabidiol interacts with numerous receptor sites. These in turn are related to “feel-good” neurotransmitters.

There are many people who notice a difference after using a few drops of CBD oil. But how is this possible? Is this a placebo effect? You can read all about it in this post.

The happiness molecule

Of course, plenty of research is being done on CBD. Early studies have shown that CBD increases the level of anandamide (happiness molecule) in the body. Its function is the endocannabinoid neurotransmitter.

When the anandamide in your body is low, it can cause mood swings and anxiety. Research has shown that CBD can actually increase these levels if your anandamide level is generally higher. This often means that your mood is better and you feel more relaxed.

Serotonin receptors

CBD affects many things, including the endocannabinoid system, and it binds to serotonin receptors. In addition, this is a mechanism that proves that CBD promotes relaxation.

Animal models have shown that less anxious behaviour was displayed via the activation of the 5-HT1A serotonin receptor. Some anxiolytics target the same serotonin receptor that is part of the serotonergic system. This network is involved in mood, appetite and cognitive functions.

Further research in animals suggests that this same molecular target can be exploited for patients with PTSD.

What does CBD do for tension?

Tension produces the exact opposite effect of relaxation. It activates the sympathetic nervous system. This leads to more alertness, an increased heart rate and muscle tone.

The result of being relaxed is being more alert, a drop in heart rate and muscle tension. CBD also appears to reduce concerns.
