What are CBD gummies? Are there any health benefits?

CBD Gummies are edible candies that contain cannabidiol (CBD) oil. They come in a rainbow of flavors, colors, shapes and concentrations of CBD. Gummies offer a discreet and convenient way to ingest CBD, and effective marketing campaigns from many manufacturers mean their popularity has risen among long-term CBD users and non-users alike.

But because most CBD products don’t always have to follow certain rules, strengths and purity can vary between brands and even within the same brand, meaning there’s no guarantee you’ll get what you think you’re getting.

Are There Health Benefits With CBD Gummies?

Manufacturers of CBD gummies claim that CBD is effective in relieving anxiety, depression, pain, inflammation and improving sleep. A CBD product (Epidolex) has been approved by the FDA in the United States to treat epilepsy.

However, research on the effectiveness of CBD oil tested only pure CBD oil, not gummies. Even for pure CBD oil, there are sometimes not yet comprehensive studies to support its health benefits, although research is expected to increase as legislation differentiates between hemp and marijuana.

There is no scientific evidence that gummies work, although anecdotally some people report a benefit and there is likely a strong placebo effect (taking something to relieve your condition will make you feel better even if that product has nothing in it).

CBD often has a somewhat bitter taste and many gummies contain large amounts of added sugar to hide this taste.

Are CBD products legal?

Hemp-derived CBD products containing less than 0.3% THC are legal; however, in some countries they may still be illegal.

Marijuana-derived CBD products can be illegal, so it’s important to always check the laws in your country.

Can CBD Gummies Get You High?

CBD gummies have no psychoactive properties, so they won’t give you a high.

CBD is derived from hemp, which contains almost no THC. THC is the chemical in marijuana that gives you a high. By law, hemp must not contain more than 0.3 percent THC to be considered hemp, otherwise growers run the risk of prosecution under the law.

The main active ingredient in hemp is CBD and CBD has no psychoactive properties. Instead, CBD is highly valued for alleviating anxiety, inflammation, insomnia and pain, although this has not always been fully (scientifically) proven.

What is the difference between CBD, cannabis, hemp, marijuana and THC?

There is still a lot of confusion about exactly what CBD is, with many people thinking that cannabis, hemp, marijuana, CBD and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) are the same. They are not.

Cannabis is a plant and there are two main types; Cannabis Indica and Cannabis Sativa. While marijuana can be derived from either strain, hemp only comes from the Cannabis Sativa family.

This means that while hemp and marijuana have a few things in common, there are notable differences, the most crucial being that hemp contains almost no THC, which is the chemical in marijuana that gives you a high. In fact, the law requires hemp to contain no more than 0.3 percent THC to be considered hemp, or else the law puts growers at risk of prosecution.

The main active ingredient in hemp is CBD and CBD has no psychoactive properties. Instead, CBD has been credited for relieving anxiety, inflammation, insomnia and pain, although there is currently little scientific evidence that CBD works other than conclusively proven in epilepsy. Epidiolex is a prescription CBD oil that was approved by the FDA in the United States in June 2018 for two rare and severe forms of epilepsy, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) and Dravet syndrome. Other studies are underway investigating the benefits of CBD for Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and anxiety.

In addition to the medicinal uses of CBD, hemp is also a great source for making 100% biodegradable, environmentally friendly products such as biofuel, building materials, clothing and paper.
