What is crossfit and why is it so good

One branch of fitness that has become increasingly popular in recent years is Crossfit. It is an intensive form of body training and therefore has quite a few advantages compared to the traditional fitness exercises in a gym. Below we will discuss in more detail what Crossfit actually is and why it is so good to train your body and improve your sporting performance.

What is Crossfit?

Crossfit basically means that you perform functional movements with a high intensity in a varied way. You could think of it as a combination of weightlifting, gymnastics, powerlifting, athletics and strongman. It goes beyond simply burning fat or building muscle mass. The unique thing about Crossfit is that various training components are performed alternately, and these exercises are usually all derived from natural body movements. This includes climbing, lifting, throwing, pulling, jumping and running. A common training is usually structured in three blocks. First of all, you start with a warm-up to reduce the risk of injury. After this you get a bit of technical skills, where various Crossfit movements are explained and practiced. The purpose of this is to be able to perform the exercises in a correct and safe way. Followed by the technical part is usually an intensive workout of between ten and twenty minutes, also called the ‘workout of the day’ (WOD). Often a competition element is also linked to the exercises in the form of a scoreboard on which the results are kept. In this way, the athletes can strive to break records and thus continue to challenge themselves.

The advantages

First of all, Crossfit is an extremely varied form of fitness, which will ensure that you will never be bored in the gym again. You practice very different sports and exercises, so you work multiple muscles and muscle groups at the same time. Even muscles that you normally do not train will be more than sufficiently affected by Crossfit exercises. No training is the same, and this keeps it fun and challenging to exercise. Because the exercises focus on natural movements, you will become functionally fit. The mobility of your body is also trained, from which your body in turn learns, albeit unconsciously.
