What Are Amino Acids?
Proteins are an enormously important topic within (strength) sports. Proteins contribute to the construction and maintenance of muscle mass. Proteins consist of 20 different types of amino acids, 12 of which are produced by your body. The other 8 amino acids are not produced by your body and you will therefore have to get them from your diet. These can be obtained from, for example, meat, fish and dairy. It is possible that you do not get enough amino acids due to your diet. Should this be the case, supplements can help you!
When is the best time to take amino acids?
Amino acids have the advantage over proteins that they are already isolated. As a result, your body absorbs amino acids many times faster than a protein shake. This makes amino acids particularly suitable for the timing of intake, for example during your strength training, but also before or after your cardio workout.
What types of amino acids are there?
There are different types of amino acids that your body does not produce naturally and are therefore important to take!
Think of leucine, isoleucine, valine, lysine, tryptophan, phenylanine, threonine, methionine, histidine and arginie. Leucine, iso-leucine & valine belong to the so-called BCAAs. These 3 amino acids have unique properties which make them particularly suitable for strength training.
