Before you start an (intense) sports activity, it is common and highly recommended to do a warm-up. One of the main reasons for doing this is to protect your body more from injury. But there are even more reasons to never skip a good warm-up before a workout.
With a warm-up you ensure that your muscles and tendons are warm and that you stimulate your blood circulation. As a result, your muscles are well supplied with blood, and they will be less vulnerable than ‘cold’ muscles. It also has positive effects on your speed, endurance and strength. In addition, your metabolic processes are stimulated, which means that your muscles can get more oxygen, which in turn reduces the chance of muscle pain. Furthermore, your nerve conduction increases, which has a positive effect on the ability to react.
